The first phase of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2020 season will now take place in Dhaka instead of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar.

Initially it was announced that the first three rounds of the 50-over competition will be played at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Chittagong.

Later, it was decided that the league would be held in Dhaka - at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and BKSP in Savar.

The changes were made due to the rising concerns over novel coronavirus in the country.

Whether the league starts Sunday as originally scheduled, the decision will be made after the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis meeting, and considering the availability of the grounds.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has already postponed the scheduled concert and two T20 matches between Asia XI and World XI, slated for March 18, 21 and 22 owing to the coronavirus.

BCB boss Nazmul Hasan later confirmed though that the DPL will not be deferred.

“There are no problems with the DPL as crowd gathering is very minimum. So there is no chance of postponing DPL at the moment,” said Nazmul to the media Wednesday.
