Captain Akbar’s image not featured in BCB banner

The banner had pictures of different cricketers from the title-winning squad celebrating their historic win but the fact Akbar was not in it looked to be a clear case of ignorance

Bangladesh Cricket Board has put up a huge banner at their headquarters with the images of the World Cup winning Bangladesh U-19 players but it does not contain the picture of captain Akbar Ali, thus paving the way for widespread discussion among the cricketing fraternities Tuesday.

A humongous banner saying "Champions – ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2020" strangely missed the key performer of the final – Akbar.

Chasing 178 runs, captain Akbar had scored a championship winning unbeaten 43 in the low-scoring thriller to help his side to victory by three-wicket margin [Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method] at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, South Africa Sunday.

The banner had pictures of different cricketers from the title-winning squad celebrating their historic win but the fact Akbar was not in it looked to be a clear case of ignorance.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury admitted of the ignorance and informed that the banner will be changed in due course of time.

“Probably they did not get his [Akbar] picture while preparing it but we will change it and honestly speaking, this is not the only banner as we have prepared many banners highlighting their accomplishment,’’ Nizamuddin explained.

Bangladesh U-19 cricketers are set to return home Wednesday evening and the BCB directors and officials will receive the heroes of the nation at the airport.
