Bowlers dominated the opening day of the eighth edition of the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League Friday as left-arm spinner Taijul Islam and right-arm seamer Shafiul Islam bagged five-fors for East Zone and South Zone respectively.
Taijul bagged five wickets conceding 58 runs in 22 overs, including eight maidens, as Central Zone were all out for 213 in 75.1 overs after being asked to bat first at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Opener Saif Hasan top-scored for Central Zone with a painstaking 214-ball 58, while No 6 batsman Taibur Rahman made 46.

The other opener Soumya Sarkar and lower-order batter Sohrawardi Shuvo chipped in with 36 and 31 respectively, but none of the batsmen were able to prolong their knocks into something significant.
Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and right-arm paceman Abu Jayed picked up two wickets each for East Zone, while young seamer Hasan Mahmud bagged one.
In reply, East Zone ended the day’s play on nought without losing any wickets as only two balls were bowled before the umpires brought an end to the proceedings.
