The Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 will continue to be named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur in future editions, according to a decision of the Bangladesh Cricket Board at a board meeting Sunday.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan informed of the board’s decision following the meeting.

The ongoing sixth edition of BPL T20 was named after Bangabandhu to celebrate his birth centenary, and the BCB has decided to keep the name in the future editions of the tournament as well.

“We named the BPL T20 after Bangabandhu this time, and we want to continue with that. The tournament will remain as the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 even in future editions of the tournament,” Nazmul told the media.

The BCB had decided to hold a special edition of the tournament following disputes with the franchises from the past seasons. A revamped plan from the BCB later saw the franchise being put off for the season, and the seven teams were introduced with different sponsors to run the season.

“The franchises will be back next season, but the name will be like it is now,” Nazmul said.
