Prime Bank Limited and the Bangladesh Cricket Board have announced that the latest edition of the annual school cricket tournament will be named Bangabandhu National School Cricket Tournament 2020, to commemorate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The tournament is organized each year to promote school cricket.
The logo of the tournament was unveiled at a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium press conference area Saturday afternoon.
Prime Bank managing director and CEO Rahel Ahmed, executive vice president Mohammad Nazmul Karim Chowdhury, BCB director and chairman of the game development committee Khaled Mahmud and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury were present at the event, among others.
The tournament, organized by BCB and presented by Prime Bank Ltd, will tentatively commence from January 20.
A total of 556 schools from across 64 districts of the country are set to participate, with 11,000 young cricketing talents playing in the national level tournament.

Mahmud said: “School level cricket is gradually regaining its past glory. Four cricketers from this year’s U-19 team previously played in the Prime Bank sponsored school cricket tournament. There are many players in the age group who previously played in school cricket.”
Rahel said: “To mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, many programs have been initiated across the country. We have also renamed the cricket tournament this year to celebrate the occasion. It will be a memorable event for everyone. We are proud to be a part of the celebrations.”
Champion teams from 64 districts will take part in the divisional championship, while winners of the seven divisions along with the winners from Dhaka will take part in the national championship.
A total of 960 matches of the Bangabandhu School Cricket 2020 will take place in 70 stadiums across the country.
Prime Bank has been sponsoring the tournament for the last four years.
Comilla High School were the champion in the last edition, while Police Line School and College, Bogra were the runners-up.
