Dhaka Platoon defeated Rajshahi Royals by 74 runs during their Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Monday.

Royals’ batsmen showed a dismal performance as they were bundled out for just 100 runs in 16.4 overs replying Platoon’s 174/5.

Platoon’s Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz wrecked havoc as he grabbed five wickets conceding just eight runs and returned with the best figure till date in the tournament. It was just the second five-wicket haul in the ongoing tournament after his Platoon teammate Thisara Perera got 5/30 against Cumilla Warriors.

Royals made a good start as openers Afif Hossain (31) and Liton Das (10) reached 39 in three overs but man of the match Riaz picked up three wickets in his first, the fourth over of the innings to put them in dire straits that they could never recover.

Wicket-keeper Jaker Ali was phenomenal for Platton as he made six dismissals.

This is the fifth win for Dhaka Platoon among their eight games while Rajshahi suffer second loss in the tournament from seven games.

Earlier, Dhaka Platoon post a challenging total of 174 losing five wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.

Opener Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten till the innings end as the left hander scored 68 off 52 deliveries with four fours and three sixes.

Dhaka lost their fifth wicket in the second ball of 13th over at the score of 84 but Pakistani recruit Asif Ali changed the course of the innings as he smashed a brilliant 55 off just 28 deliveries with four fours and four sixes.

Tamim and Asif added 90 runs in the sixth wicket from just 46 deliveries to help Dhaka post a winning total on the board.
