Bangladesh put a giant stride toward the semi-final of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup as they beat India by six wickets at BKSP in Savar Saturday.

Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto led from the front as his 94-run knock, which awarded him the man-of-the-match accolade, played the key role in the home side reaching 250/4 in 42.1 overs, replying to India’s 246, to win the match with 49 balls to spare.

Shanto got great support from another national discard Soumya Sarkar as the latter made 73 opening the batting and formed a crucial 154-run second wicket partnership while chasing the total.

One-down Shanto faced 88 balls in his innings that was constructed with 14 fours and two sixes while Soymya struck seven fours and three sixes in his 68-ball knock.

Two other players - Afif Hossain and Yasir Ali - who have been featuring in the Bangladesh squads in the shorter version in the recent past, scored 34 and 21 respectively to ensure their side does not get derailed and clinch a somewhat comprehensive win.

With the win Bangladesh, who beat Hong Kong in their first match, have four points from two games while India and Nepal have two points each.

Earlier in the day, after losing the toss, India posted a score of 246 thanks largely to 105 by Armann Jaffer.

Armann, the Maharashtra-born 21-year old, who is the nephew of former Test cricketer Wasim Jaffer, played just 98 balls to score over run-a-ball but other batsmen could not help him much in the batting-friendly smallish ground.

Bangladesh seamer Sumon Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figure of 4/64.

Bangladesh will play their final group stage match against Nepal Monday.
