After a tumultuous week in the country’s cricket, the third round matches of the National Cricket League’s third round began across four different venues Saturday.
However, no toss occurred in two of the matches due to inclement weather as players shone with bat and ball in the other two.
Anamul Haque Bijoy’s century for Khulna against Dhaka was the highlight of the first day at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox's Bazar while Rangpur’s young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain shone with the ball as he grabbed a five-for against Rajshahi at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in the coastal city.

As top Bangladesh players went for an indefinite strike, the third round games, which were scheduled to begin Thursday, were postponed and after the impasse came to an end, the NCL resumed.

Anamul, one of the cricketers who were present during the announcement of the strike Monday, made a brilliant start for his side but had to retire hurt during the tea break after scoring 112 runs as his side, batting first, reached 290/6 at stumps.
Dhaka seamer Sumon Khan gave his side a good start as he picked up the wicket of Anamul’s opening partner Robiul Islam Robi (10) when the score was 16, before getting rid of one-down Mahedi Hasan for the same score, five balls later.
But Anamul repaired the innings with the experienced Tushar Imran as the latter scored 55 off 124 and more importantly, added 166 for the third wicket stand.
Anamul looked solid even after the departure of his partner but following the tea-break, when the score was 203, he did not reappear in the field after playing a sumptuous 205-ball knock that contained nine fours and five sixes.
Mohammad Mithun scored 45; Ziaur Rahman made 27 while Mehedi Hasan Miraz was not out on 30 at the end of the day.
