The Bangladesh U-19 cricket team currently touring New Zealand for five youth ODIs visited the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch Friday - one of the two mosques which were attacked by a lone gunman on March 15, 2019.
Incidentally, members of the Bangladesh national team which were touring at the time were merely 50 yards away from approaching the mosque for Friday prayers and were saved by the bell from the horrendous attack.
After winning the second youth ODI of their tour convincingly, the young Tigers accompanied by members of the coaching staff visited the Al Noor Mosque to attend Friday prayers in a gesture of paying respect.
Hannan Sarker, manager of the Bangladesh U-19 side took to his personal Facebook account to post photos of their visit.

His post read, “A humbling and respectful time [Friday] at Jumma Prayer with Bangladesh U-19 team at the Christchurch (New Zealand) Mosque that affected so many around the world. We stand against terrorism. 52 people were taken in such horrific ways.”
Earlier in March this year, 52 people were shot dead and many others were left injured by an armed individual in what has been termed as the most horrific incident in New Zealand’s history.
Three Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly killed while a bus carrying 17 members of the Bangladesh cricket team were minutes away from being inside the Al Noor Mosque where the fatal mass shooting took place.
