Afghanistan leg-spinner Qais Ahmed believes the touring side are in a position to win the lone Test against host Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
At stumps on day two Friday, Bangladesh were left in a precarious position replying to Afghanistan’s 342 in the first innings.
Afghan spin trio Qais, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi took seven wickets between them to leave Bangladesh on 194 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 67 overs at the end of the day.
Qais took one while captain Rashid and Nabi claimed four and two wickets accordingly to keep Afghanistan on top.
Top-order batsman Mominul Haque was the lone warrior when the @ACBofficials bowlers were tearing apart the @BCBtigers batting.https://t.co/dn5NZkNgP0#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #BANGLADESH #CRICKET #BANGLADESHCRICKET #MOMINULHAQUE #MOMINUL #AFGHANISTAN #ACB #AFGHANISTANCRICKET

“We believe that we have chance to win the match. [Friday] the rain favored Bangladeshi batsmen as the ball became wet and it was not easy to turn away. [Saturday] we will have a new ball and that will work for us,” explained Qais to the media.
Afghanistan, playing just their third Test, will look to wrap up the opponent early today morning and put on a competitive score for the home side to chase.
With the bat yesterday, Bangladesh’s only contributions of note were Mominul Haque’s 52 and an unbroken 48-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam.
“This last partnership [between Mosaddek and Taijul] helped Bangladesh really well and they made it together about 50 runs [48] in the wicket. We will try to bowl them early [Saturday] morning. We will then start our batting and then will give them a big target,” informed Qais.
