Bangladesh women’s cricket team finished their disappointing campaign of the World T20I on a losing note as they lost to South Africa by 30 runs in their final Group A match at Gros Islet of Saint Lucia Sunday.
Once again, Bangladesh struggled with their batting as they were restricted for 79/5 in their stipulated 20 overs after their bowlers did a good job containing the opponent to 109/9.
The effort of the Bangladesh bowlers was commendable as South Africa made a flying start, reaching the 60-run mark in the ninth over, losing just one wicket, after Salma Khatun invited them to bat.
As a matter of fact, it was a sensational piece of fielding that gave the women in red and green a breakthrough as Fargana Haque dived to her left to get rid of Marizanne Kapp, who made 25, off the bowling of Rumana Ahmed.
Khadija-tul Kubra cleaned up Sune Luus for a duck in the next over before Nahida Akhter dismissed skipper and opening batsman Dane van Niekerk for 17 to put a stranglehold on South Africa’s progress.

Skipper Salma picked up three lower-order wickets to return with figure of 3/21, and become the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, but Chloe Tryon and Mignon du Preez scored 18 and 14 respectively to take the score to three figure.
In reply, Bangladesh’s innings never got going as their run-rate was dismal, and they also lost wickets to get reduced to 27/3 in the ninth over.
Rumana scored 34 off 40 with two boundaries, but that was never enough to catch up to the required rate.
South Africa used seven bowlers, and five of them got one wicket apiece, but opening bowler Kapp was the most economical of the lot as she conceded just six runs off three overs and was adjudged player of the match.
With the result, Bangladesh not only have to return empty handed, losing all four matches in the tournament, but they have to play in the qualifying round for the next edition as they finished last in the group.
South Africa defeat Bangladesh by 30 runs to end their @WorldT20 campaign on a high!
