Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal’s new injury has almost ended the prospect of him returning to the international arena through the upcoming first Test against West Indies. Tamim’s side strain injury will require at least one week to heal and that has almost ruled out his chances to return to the Tigers’ dressing room before 22nd November, the opening day of the first Test.
The national selection panel however will wait till Thursday before announcing the squad for the first match. The selection panel is constantly checking on Tamim’s state as well that of Shakib Al Hasan, who attended his first net session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
BCB’s chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury informed the opening batsman is under their radar.
“He is in 48 hours of observation. We will have a look at him tomorrow (Thursday). If his complain is intense we will send him for a medical scan and if not he will have to undergo therapy,” physician Dr Debashish to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
However, chief of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin also informed Dhaka Tribune Tamim is in consideration for the first Test against West Indies.
“We will take a final call on Tamim based on the medical assessment on Thursday,” said Minhajul.
Tamim sustained a finger fracture in the opening game of the ACC Asia Cup 2018 in September this year.
Tamim had eyed a return in the first Test series against West Indies.
A part of the West Indies Test squad was scheduled to reach Dhaka on Wednesday evening. The Caribbean side during their month long stay will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts.
