Bangladesh women’s cricket defeated Ireland by six wickets in their practice match, ahead of the World T20I, at Providence Stadium in Guyana Sunday.
Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun elected to field first. Ireland lost regular wickets right from the very beginning and managed to score only 87 runs losing seven wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.
It was a very good bowling effort from the Bangladesh camp as both the spinners and the pacers bowled economically. Spinner Rumana Ahmed was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh as she took three wickets for just 10 runs in her quota of four overs, including one maiden. Seamer Jahanara Alama took two wickets while spinner Khadija-tul Kubra bagged one.
In reply, Bangladesh chased down their target within 14.4 overs. Opener Ayasha Rahman scored 25 while No 3 batter Fargana Hoque made 21. Ireland’s Kim Garth took three wickets.
Bangladesh will play their next warm-up match against Pakistan Tuesday. Bangladesh’s World T20I campaign will start against host the West Indies Friday. Later, they will play against England, Sri Lanka and South Africa in their Group A encounters.
