Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal who is carrying a wrist fracture has been finally been ruled out officially from the ACC Asia Cup 2018. The left-handed batsman met a German orthopedic doctor at Dubai’s Al Zara hospital on Monday.
Initial assessment of the injury has ruled out major complications while suggesting a surgery is not necessary. However, the doctor not being a specialist on sports injury has not been able to clear all doubts.
Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud told the media about Tamim’s journey in the Asia Cup coming to an end.
“We can finally say he has been ruled out. We are to send reports to a specialist and assess the injury. That will advise us the time of recover that he will need,” said Mahmud to the media in Dubai on Monday.
Tamim is to return to Dhaka on Tuesday and wait for the next course of dealing with the injury. If the assessment by the specialist suggests a closer look, then the Bangladesh opener might need to travel abroad for better treatment. Initial assessment of the injury suggested the south-paw will need at least six weeks to recover before returning to action.
Opener Tamim sustained a fracture on his left wrist during the second over of the game against Sri Lanka in Dubai International Stadium on Saturday. He was rushed off the field immediately and taken to hospital where report revealed fracture.
However in an act of unprecedented bravery in Bangladesh cricket history, Tamim went to bat in the 47th over of the game with a broken hand, face one ball with his right hand and motivate Mushfiqur Rahim to add 32 off 15 balls to take the score from 229 to 261. Mushfiqur finished with career best 114 and second highest score in Asia Cup history and the momentum saw Bangladesh bowlers restrict Sri Lanka to a record low 124 runs.
