South Zone bag record third BCL title

Prime Bank South Zone came from behind in the points table to surpass BCB North Zone and clinch the Bangladesh Cricket League title after winning the sixth and last game of the season by an innings and 63 runs with a day to spare in Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Cricket Stadium Thursday. South Zone in the process bagged the title of the franchise-based four-day competition for a record third time. Walton Central Zone have won the competition twice while North Zone have won it once. South Zone had gone into the round second in the points table with 47 points and the win saw the side surpass table-topper North Zone and finish the season with 65 points. North Zone ended second in the standing with 62 points.

Veteran left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was key behind South Zone’s triumph. The 35-year old finished the game with 11 wickets, registering his ninth 10-wicket haul in the format. The experienced South Zone campaigner in the first innings bagged five wickets for 53 runs while in the second, he took another six scalps conceding 48 runs. The game on day three resumed with North Zone batting on 32 without loss in eight overs in the second innings. The side had trailed by 146 runs in the innings and the opposition made use of the pressure situation. Razzak led from the front while spinner Saqlain Sajib chipped in with three wickets to skittle North Zone for 115 in 43.2 overs.
