Ton-up Mosaddek as South Zone salvage draw

Prime Bank South Zone batsman Mosaddek Hossain reacted to being excluded from the central contracts list by striking a fine unbeaten century against Walton Central Zone during the fourth and final day of the Bangladesh Cricket League’s fifth and penultimate round Friday. At Shaheed Kamruzzaman Cricket Stadium in Rajshahi, Mosaddek struck 102 off 107 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes, to take South Zone’s second innings tally to 484 runs for the loss of eight wickets declared in 108.3 overs. Central Zone, set an improbable target of 374, were batting on 158, having lost five wickets in 55 overs, before stumps were drawn signaling the end of the day’s play. Central Zone’s No 3 batsman Abdul Mazid scored an unbeaten 110-ball 60, composed with five fours and a couple of over boundaries. South Zone spinner Abdur Razzak bagged three wickets conceding 73 runs.

Earlier, South Zone, resuming the day on 348/6 in 83 overs, added 136 more runs before declaring their innings, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun scoring the highest 118 off 121 deliveries, featuring 16 boundaries and a sixer. Mosaddek later added the finishing touch to the innings with his undefeated century. Central Zone had earlier taken a 111-run first innings lead after scoring 302 in 88.3 overs, replying to South Zone’s 191 in 49.5 overs. North Zone lead the points table with 58 points, followed by South Zone, who have 44 points. East Zone are third with 40 points while Central Zone are at the bottom with 39 points, going into the sixth and final round, starting Tuesday.
