Moments: Devoted Mushfiq, beginning of the end, another low for Bangladesh and Tigers' 12th 10-wicket defeat

Update : 25 Jan 2018, 07:41 PM
Mushfiq's extra warm-upMushfiqur Rahim is often credited for his dedication to the Bangladesh cause, and persistent hard work in the nets. But there are times when the Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman hits the extra mile. Mushfiq ahead of their Sri Lanka tie Thursday was reported to have reached the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka around two hours before the toss. The right-handed batsman was found knocking a few balls here and there, and going through keeping drills under the supervision of coach Richard Halsall. But the hard work fetched Mushfiq only 26 runs on a day when the Tigers suffered a batting debacle.Beginning of the endBangladesh lost the wicket of Anamul Haque for a duck and with only five runs on the board. However many opined it was the run out of the in-form Shakib al Hasan that had started the Bangladesh debacle. Tamim Iqbal was on strike and punched the ball to the cover point region. Danushka Gunathilaka moved across to his left, swooped down on the ball and hit the stumps. Tamim had called for the single after which followed a brief hesitation between the second wicket stand. Shakib knew he could not make it and gave up in the end. The all-rounder departed after scoring only eight runs as Bangladesh were reeling on 15 for the loss of two wickets, leaving Tamim dejected in the middle. Only two deliveries later, Tamim walked back to the dressing room following a brilliant diving catch by Gunathilaka, who covered good space at deep backward point. Tamim managed to score only five.Bangladesh hit another lowWhen Rubel Hossain was caught at long-on, Bangladesh ended their innings on 82, the Tigers' seventh lowest ODI total. This is the first time Bangladesh have been bundled out below 100 since 2014. In 2014, Bangladesh's batting failed twice, first against India in Dhaka when the host were all out for 58 and later against the West Indies when the Tigers were skittled out for 70 in St George's.12th 10-wicket defeat for BangladeshBangladesh registered their 12th 10-wicket defeat when Lankan opener Gunathilaka took the winning run. The occasion was the third when Sri Lanka posted a win with such a margin in ODIs against Bangladesh. The last time Bangladesh faced a similar humiliation was in the first ODI against host South Africa last October.
