Fingers crossed for Jarvis, Zimbabwe

Update : 23 Jan 2018, 10:15 PM
Zimbabwe after losing their final league game by 91 runs to host Bangladesh Tuesday in the tri-nation ODI series have their fate hanging finely in the balance for a berth in the grand finale. The side will have to stay back in the hotel and wait for the last league game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and hope the home side end up with yet another win at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Thursday. Zimbabwe pacer Kyle Jarvis informed that they will have their fingers crossed for Bangladesh to do them a favour and take the African nation to the title decider with a better run-rate than that of Sri Lanka. "It is going to go down to run-rate. Hopefully Bangladesh can do us a favour in the next game. We shouldn't have left it in someone else's hand. We should have done it ourselves. We wish Bangladesh good luck in the next game," said the right-arm pacer following the game against Bangladesh. A disappointed Jarvis opined that his side were in a good position, having restricted Bangladesh to 216 in 50 overs, but blamed the early fall of wickets in their chase as they crumbled to only 125 in 36.3 overs.

"I am very disappointed. I thought we were really good in the field bar a couple of overs in the back end. I thought 217 was a little bit below par. I thought we were in a good position. The moment you lose three early wickets, it is going to be really difficult to get those runs especially with the class of bowlers Bangladesh have. I think few guys will be asking tough questions of themselves," said Jarvis, who picked three wickets conceding 42 runs in nine overs. The Harare-born cricketer mentioned that his side missed a batting stand, similar to Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal and Shakib al Hasan. The Bangladesh batters posted 106 for the second wicket on a bowler friendly wicket. "The way Tamim and Shakib batted, hitting the ball along the ground and gave themselves a chance. They got some runs. That's what we needed; we needed two or three batters to get in and give themselves a chance. We let ourselves down big time, we should never have been bowled out for 125," said Jarvis.
