Mithun: My ultimate goal is to play well for Bangladesh

Update : 08 Jan 2018, 09:19 PM
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun is aiming to meet the ultimate goal of his career by performing for the Bangladesh side. The right-handed batsman, who bats regularly in the top-order, was rewarded with a second chance in the Bangladesh set-up, backed by his regular performance in the domestic circuit. The last time Mithun caught the attention of the selection panel was during the fifth edition of the BPL T20. The stumper-batsman scored 329 runs in 13 innings to help Rangpur Riders lift their maiden BPL title. “There is no end to performing well. There is big room for improvement, to do more than what I have done (in the domestic competitions). But I have not been able to showcase myself in the international level yet. So the first ambition is always to play well for the country. I might have played well for the clubs and the franchises but the ultimate goal is to perform for the Bangladesh team and I will try my best, now that I have been given the opportunity,” said Mithun to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Monday.

“BPL has many things similar to an international game, it is my personal thought. We do not get to face many overseas cricketers in the other domestic tournaments, but it is different in the BPL. And there is also the pressure of the camera and the crowd. A player can always feel the atmosphere of an international game in the BPL,” the Rangpur lad added. The last time Mithun played in the national colour was during the 2016 World T20 against New Zealand in Kolkata. Mithun, who has developed into an effective limited-over batsman, has played two ODIS and 12 T20Is for Bangladesh. “Honestly, it is always frustrating to get dropped from the national team. No player wants that to happen as it is always a dream to play in the national colour. So the dream is alive for me again and I am very happy for that,” Mithun informed. “I want to win at least one game for the country. There is no better feeling than that. But then again, it will all depend on the situation that I will get during a game and play accordingly. Of course I will give my best to win a game for Bangladesh if I fall in that situation. If given the chance to play, I will try to contribute as much as possible,” he concluded.
