Miraz bags career-best seven wickets

The sixth and final round of the Walton 19th National Cricket League began Wednesday. Defending champion and tier one leader with 16 points, Khulna dominated day one against Dhaka as Mehedi Hasan Miraz bagged seven wickets. Miraz with his best bowling figure in an innings was the highlight on the first day of the last round of the first-class tournament.Dhaka v KhulnaBangladesh all-rounder Miraz shone brightly for Khulna to dismiss Dhaka for 113 runs in the first innings at BKSP Ground 3. At stumps, Khulna trailed by 90 runs without any loss. Dhaka batsmen failed miserably after being asked to bat first as off-spinner Miraz picked up seven wickets in 11.4 overs conceding 24 runs. Mustafizur Rahman initiated the first blow as he removed Rony Talukdar, followed by Zahiduzzaman. Miraz then came to the party and removed seven opponent batsmen to mark his best first-class bowling figure in an innings, dismissing the likes of Shuvagata Hom, Rakibul Hasan and Nadif Chowdhury. Khulna captain Abdur Razzak notched the other wicket. Rakibul’s 28 was the highest score for Dhaka.Barisal v RangpurRiding on Sohag Gazi’s 99, Barisal posted 280 on the board losing six wickets at stumps against Rangpur in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium. Barisal opted to bat first and despite losing the early wickets of skipper Fazle Rabbi and Salman, the side registered a decent score, courtesy Gazi’s heroics and half centuries by Al Amin and Nuruzzaman. Gazi scored 99 off 104 deliveries with 13 boundaries and an over boundary while Al Amin and Nuruzzaman added 50 and an unbeaten 51 respectively. Rangpur’s Subashish Roy and Tanbir Hayder picked up two wickets each. Barisal with eight points are at the bottom of the tier one points table and are battling relegation against Rangpur, who are leading them by just two points.

Rajshahi v Dhaka MetropolisHalf-centuries from Sadman Islam and captain Marshal Ayub saw Dhaka Metro post 210 for the loss of four wickets at stumps, following a delayed start due to fog at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi. Sadman added 75 to the board while Marshal contributed 67 to push the Dhaka Metro innings. Taijul Islam bagged three wickets for Rajshahi, who had earlier won the toss. Rajshahi with 23 points have already been promoted to tier one while Dhaka Metro are at the bottom with eight points in the tier two points table.Sylhet v ChittagongSylhet trail by 161 runs in the first innings, replying to Chittagong’s 215 at Sylhet Division Stadium. Batting first, Chittagong’s innings was propelled by Yasir Ali’s 81. Sadikur Rahman scored 46. Abul Hasan and Enamul Haque Jr took three wickets each for Sylhet.
