Update : 20 Dec 2017, 08:23 PM
Bangladesh U-19 top-order batsman Pinak Ghosh Wednesday said it is important to play as a team in the upcoming 2018 U-19 World Cup, which will be begin in New Zealand on January 13. Pinak stressed on the importance of team mentality, working as a unit and preparing for each individual match as the Tigers U19s are targeting the semi-finals and maybe, go all the way to the grand finale. “The important thing is to play as a team. We have played well as a team in the Asia Cup. We are hoping to play well in the upcoming World Cup,” said the batsman. “I am confident. We have performed well in the 2017 Asia Cup. We are ready for the U-19 World Cup. All the players are performing well in batting, bowling and fielding. So overall, we are confident,” he added. Bangladesh finished third in the last installment of the tournament back in 2016, which the country hosted. When asked about the team’s ambition for the World Cup, the batsman expressed the team’s desire to match their previous achievement and go further. “We played in the semi-finals last time. This time, we’ll take the matches one by one and at least advance till the semis. And obviously, we aim to win the World Cup.”

The player also wished to perform well in the tournament, and lead the team as an experienced member of the squad. “I want to play with more responsibility. I have to assume more responsibility now as I have played a World Cup for Bangladesh already. My aim is to give the team a good start and maintain the momentum,” he said. When queried about the playing condition, Ghosh said they were not worried as he had spoken to the senior players regarding the wickets in New Zealand. “I am not thinking about the condition. I have spoken to Mashrafe [bin Mortaza] bhai, Soumya [Sarkar] bhai and Mosaddek [Hossain] bhai. They have told me that the condition will not be that harsh. Besides that, the wicket will be comparatively easy as it is an ICC tournament. So we are not too concerned about the condition,” he explained.
