Khulna Titans will be looking to seal a top two berth in the points table when they take on table-topper Comilla Victorians in a BPL 2017 match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.
A win for Khulna against high-flying Comilla will take the former to second position with 15 points from 12 games, ahead of holder Dhaka Dynamites and Rangpur Riders, who have both clinched berths in the playoffs.
However, a victory might not still be enough for Khulna to confirm a top two finish as they will need Dhaka to lose their last match of the double round robin league.
Dhaka have 13 points from 11 games while Rangpur, who have 12 points from 11 matches, can still claim a top two berth if both the Dynamites and the Titans lose their last game.
Comilla, with 16 points from 10 matches, are already assured of a top two finish.
The importance of finishing in the top two has not been lost on the teams who have qualified for the playoffs. The top two sides will face each other in Qualifier 1 with the losing team getting another chance to stake a claim for themselves in the grand finale.
The Qualifier 1 loser will face the winner of the Eliminator, to be battled between the third and fourth placed sides, in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final where the winner of Qualifier 1 will lie in wait.
Comilla and Khulna have no major injury issues although the former received a bad news a few days ago when their pacer Al Amin Hossain was reported for suspect bowling action in the BPL 5.
However, the right-arm paceman will be eligible to bowl for the next two weeks, meaning he will be available for Comilla for the remainder of the money-spinning tournament, before he appears for the bowling action test.
“They only expressed concern. I have to give the test in accordance with the rules and regulations. We will see what happens next,” said Al Amin.
“Actually, there is nothing to be surprised about in cricket. Sometimes the decision goes in your favour and at times it goes against you. It is a challenge for any cricketer to keep cool and overcome the challenge,” he added.
Meanwhile in the other game of the day at the same venue, the already eliminated sides Rajshahi Kings and Chittagong Vikings will lock horn with each other in what will be a mere formality.
