Shuvagata drops Bopara catch twice in same overThe match between Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Sixers headed towards a thrilling finish as 43 runs were required from the last 24 balls. England’s Ravi Bopara and captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza were at the crease for Rangpur. Paceman Sohail Tanvir came on to bowl the 17th over of the innings. Bopara gave chances in that over but on both occasions, Sylhet fielder Shuvagata Hom dropped the catch at widish long on. First, Shuvagata dropped Bopara’s catch off the first ball. It was a length ball from Tanvir and Bopara tried to clear the long on boundary. Shuvagata came forward and dived but the ball didn’t stick in his hands. In the next ball, Bopara smashed a sixer in reply. The second dropped catch occurred in same fashion and yet again it was Shuvagata who dropped Bopara’s catch off the final delivery of that over. And so, the two dropped catches in that over proved to be costly for Sylhet as they eventually lost the match.Mashrafe’s cameo lifts Rangpur, againMashrafe is in good touch as the prolific all-rounder is serving with both bat and ball for Rangpur and yesterday, he sealed a crucial win for his team. Mashrafe scored 42 off just 17 balls with four fours and three sixes against Chitagong Vikings to help his side clinch a last-ball thriller Saturday. And against Sylhet, Mashrafe once again played a crucial knock to guide his team home. At one stage, 20 were required from the last 12 balls. Mashrafe smashed a huge six over long on in the very first ball of the over against Tanvir, which was crucial in the context of the game. In the last over, Rangpur needed nine and once again, Mashrafe struck a beautiful shot to clear the boundary against England’s Tim Bresnan. So two sixes in as many overs sealed Rangpur’s victory and yet again, Mashrafe rose to the occasion for his team.Mahedi’s maiden over against PooranYoung Comilla Victorians off-spinner Mahedi Hasan has been impressive in this year’s BPL. The spinner bowled a brilliant spell against big hitters Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum and conceded only two runs in his two overs when they faced Rangpur during the Dhaka phase of the money-spinning tournament. Mahedi again bowled beautifully against Khulna Titans and gave away eight runs in his two overs, picking up one wicket. Mahedi bagged the important wicket of South African opener Rilee Rossouw in his fourth ball of the spell, thus giving his side a good start. And later, the offie bowled a beautiful over, registering a maiden against Nicholas Pooran in the fifth over of the Khulna innings. A maiden over in T20 cricket is certainly a brilliant effort from the perspective of a bowler and credit should be given to the youngster.
