Captain fantastic Mashrafe shows Rangpur the way

Rangpur Riders all-rounder Thisara Perera smashed a last ball sixer to clinch a thrilling three-wicket win against home team Chittagong Vikings in their BPL 2017 match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium Saturday. Chasing 177, Rangpur needed 14 runs in the last over to win the game. Chittagong pacer Taskin Ahmed took one wicket in that over while all-rounder Nahidul Islam was dismissed while taking a single. The match went to the last ball as four runs were needed from the final delivery. Taskin bowled a wide and thus three were required off the last ball. Perera turned out to be the hero as he smacked the ball over deep mid wicket to seal a memorable win for Rangpur. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun was the top-scorer for Rangpur with 44 while captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza made 42. Mashrafe was adjudged man of the match.Earlier, Mashrafe elected to field. Rangpur got a lucky break early on as the in-form Chittagong opener Luke Ronchi (11 off five) was run out due to a mix up with the other opener Soumya Sarkar in the second over. Soumya scored some runs before being cleaned up by Nahidul for a 26-ball 30 with two fours and as many sixes. No 4 batsman Stiaan van Zyl played another good innings in the middle-order as the left-hander scored 68 off 40 balls with the three boundaries and four over boundaries.Afghanistan’s Najibullah Zadran also scored a quick 25 in the end to help Chittagong get past the 170-mark.
