Du Plessis surprised to see Bangladesh not putting up any fight

Update : 09 Oct 2017, 12:03 AM
South Africa captain Faf du Plessis informed that the Proteas camp are literary surprised to see Bangladesh not competing in any sessions during the two-match Test series as the visiting side lost both the games by huge margins, despite the nature of the batting tracks. “Yes, pretty surprised. Before the series started I said this would be a great challenge for Bangladesh to see where they are when it comes to playing overseas. The last year or two you could see Bangladesh were a high quality Test team. So I expected a bigger fight,” said Du Plessis to the media during the post-day press conference at Mangaung Oval Sunday.“I didn’t expect them to win the series, but I expected there would be sessions in the game where we would have to be absorbing a bit of pressure because they do have skill. But with that, you have to just say our team did better. If they tried to put pressure on us, we responded positively and aggressively and basically five or six overs after that we were back and dominating the game,” he added.

The South African skipper advised Bangladesh bowlers to bowl with a lot more control in these conditions and also had words of advice for the opposition batsmen. “Bangladesh don’t have tall bowlers. In these conditions you need bowlers who are a bit taller and who can get a bit more bounce. Bounce and pace is what you need when go to South Africa or Australia. Then there’s control. That was lacking from Bangladesh in this series. As a batting unit, we felt that every over there was a boundary you could score, so control is very important,” said the right-handed batsman. The Proteas captain, who scored his seventh Test century in the first innings of the Bloemfontein Test and remained unbeaten on 135, also said the Tigers batsmen need to improve their skill and technique while playing short balls. “The batters, it’s simple but it’s hard because the bounce is uncomfortable. You have to get rid of fear of the short ball and once you have a good plan on how to counter that then you will get better,” the 33-year old concluded.
