Nothing serious as Mushfiq visits hospital after ball hits helmet

Update : 09 Oct 2017, 01:36 AM
Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim was taken to local hospital for a checkup after the ball hit his helmet during the third day of their second and final Test match against South Africa at Mangaung Oval Sunday. The Tigers resumed their second innings Sunday on seven runs without loss after ending their first innings on 147 a day earlier. Mushfiq came in to bat after the fall of a couple of early wickets.

The Bangladesh captain dropped down on his knees when a short ball from paceman Duanne Olivier hit his helmet in the 13th over. Mushfiq was dismissed for 26 just before lunch by pacer Wayne Parnell when the ball touched his pad. He then opted for a review but replays showed that the impact was on line and the ball would have just clipped the off-stump so the umpire's call remained.

Bangladesh were eventually dismissed for 172, losing the Bloemfontein Test by an innings and 254 runs to concede the series 2-0. “After I got hit, there was a lot of pain. I took medication and tried to be there for my team. Following a chat with our physio (Thihan Chandramohan) in the middle, I told him I will go off if I can’t bat after 10-15 mins. I wasn’t 100% but I tried my level best to survive till lunch. I got out before lunch, and then I went to hospital. Doctors did a few tests. I am okay at the moment. If I feel bad again, I can go back to hospital," said Mushfiq during the post-day press conference Sunday.
