PSL T20 franchise Peshawar Zalmi retained the service of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and released opener Tamim Iqbal while Quetta Gladiators kept all-rounder Mahmudullah in their roster ahead of the third edition of the tournament.
As per the instruction of the PCB, the five franchises - Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars - retained 10 players from the previous edition of the competition last year and released the rest for the players' draft, scheduled to be held later this month.
The 2018 edition will be held with the participation of six franchises with Multan Sultans the newest addition to the tournament.Shakib played for Peshawar last season and scored 54 runs in the five matches in which he got the opportunity to bat.
He also took eight wickets in 13 games to lead his side to the Qualifier before returning home.
In the inaugural edition, the ace all-rounder made 126 runs in eight matches for Karachi.Peshawar retained Shakib in the diamond category.
Tamim, on the other hand, enjoyed a stellar first season with Peshawar.
The left-hander totaled 267 runs in six games to help his side to third place in the competition.In the second season for Peshawar, Tamim accumulated 94 runs in five matches with a highest score of 62 before departing for Bangladesh's tour of Sri Lanka.
It remains to be seen whether the southpaw will be picked up by any franchise in the draft.Mahmudullah, in contrast, has bagged seven wickets for Quetta in five matches.
While with the bat, the all-rounder garnered 37 runs in three games.
Mahmudullah was retained in the same category as Shakib.
