National cricketer Tamim Iqbal and Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 franchise owner of Sylhet Super Stars, Azizul Islam, are set to be fined by the BCB.
The BCB will punish the duo for their altercation during the Chittagong Vikings-Super Stars tie in BPL 3 on November 22.
“The board has decided to fine both Tamim and Azizul for the unpleasant incident during the BPL. Azizul will be fined more than Tamim,” Bangladesh Cricket Board’s disciplinary committee chairman and BPL governing council member Sheikh Sohel informed the media.
The amount of the fine will be revealed following the upcoming four-match T20I series between hosts Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The series is scheduled to begin on January 15 and end six days later.
“There are a few more things that need to be discussed and decided (before the amount of the fine is determined),” said Sohel.
The Chittagong-Sylhet encounter at SBNS witnessed plenty of drama. The match was delayed because the foreign players – Englishmen Ravi Bopara and Josh Cobb - that Sylhet had included in their line-up were yet to obtain the No-Objection Certificate from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Tamim protested and went off the field. And then followed an hour-long discussion between the players, franchise officials and members of the BPL’s technical committee. Tamim was seen arguing with Azizul and moments later, the Chittagong captain seemingly lost his cool before rushing back to the dressing room.
