Bangladesh fight back with early strikes after posting 260 against Australia

Australia were tottering on 18 runs for the loss of three wickets in nine overs when stumps were drawn during day one of their first Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday. Opener David Warner (eight), top-order batsman Usman Khawaja (one) and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (nought) all departed cheaply as all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and youngster Mehedi Hasan Miraz picked up one wicket each. Left-handed batsman Matt Renshaw (six) and captain Steve Smith (three) will resume the third day's play on Monday. Earlier, the Tigers were all out for 260 in 78.5 overs following the tea break with Shakib and opening batsman Tamim Iqbal leading the way with contrasting half-centuries.Shakib scored 84 off 133 deliveries, including 11 boundaries, while Tamim made 71 off 144 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes. Tamim and Shakib added 155 for the fourth wicket.Captain Mushfiqur Rahim had won the toss and elected to bat under overcast condition. The home side named batsman Mominul Haque as the 12th man, wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das the 13th and paceman Taskin Ahmed the 14th.On the other hand, Australia recalled Khawaja and spinner Ashton Agar, who both toured India this year but did not play in the four-Test series. During the toss, Mushfiq said, "We are very confident after beating Sri Lanka in Colombo and we also beat England here last year. I hope the boys are fired up." Smith admitted that they would also have taken first guard had he won the toss. "The wicket looks pretty slow," he said.Shakib and Tamim are playing their 50th Test. Only three other Bangladesh players - Mushfiq, Habibul Bashar and Mohammad Ashraful - have reached the landmark.
