Bangladesh were handed a crushing nine-wicket defeat by Pakistan in their 2016 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup match at Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok in Thailand on Wednesday.
It was a day to forget for the women in red and green as they fell for the lowest ever total (44) in the history of women’s T20 cricket. The previous lowest total (54) also belonged to Bangladesh against India in the same tournament last week.
Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first but they made a terrible start, losing three wickets for only four runs within four overs.
Only two players – Jahanara Alam (12 not out) and Rumana (11) - managed to reach double figures.
Pakistan spinner Sana Mir took three wickets in her three overs conceding just five runs while pacer Aiman Anwar took two wickets giving away only nine runs in her four-over spell.
Chasing 45 runs, Pakistan cruised to victory in 9.5 overs losing only one wicket, that of opening batter Ayesha Zafar (two). The other opener Javeria Khan remained unbeaten on 26 off 31 balls with four boundaries while Iram Javed was not out at the other end with 17 runs.
Bangladesh spinner Khadij-tul Kubra picked up the only wicket to fall.
Bangladesh, currently fourth in the six-team points table with four points from as many games, take on Sri Lanka in their final round-robin match this Saturday at the same venue.
Only the top two teams will progress to the grand finale, scheduled to be held in the Thai capital this Sunday.BRIEF SCOREPakistan 45/1 in 9.5 overs (Javeria 26*, Javed 17, Kubra 1/18) beat Bangladesh 44 in 15.3 overs (Jahanara 12*, Sana 3/5, Aiman 2/9) by nine wickets POINTS TABLETeams M W L PtsIndia 3 3 0 6Pakistan 4 3 1 6Sri Lanka 3 2 1 4Bangladesh 4 2 2 4Thailand 3 0 3 0Nepal 3 0 3 0
