Clinical Dhaka down Barisal

Update : 28 Nov 2016, 12:01 AM
Dhaka Dynamites defeated Barisal Bulls by four wickets in their Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2016-17 season encounter in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Chasing Barisal’s 132/6, Dhaka reached their destination with four balls to spare. Dhaka made two changes to their playing XI from Saturday’s match against holders Comilla Victorians. Injured paceman Mohammad Shahid was replaced by Alauddin Babu while English all-rounder Ravi Bopara came into the side in place of Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene. In pursuit of 133, Dhaka started unconvincingly as in-form opening batsman Mehedi Maruf (one) got out in just the third ball of the innings off the bowling of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. However, the rest of the Dhaka batsmen - Kumar Sangakkara (32), captain Shakib al Hasan (22), Nasir Hossain (34) and Mosaddek Hossian (23) - contributed well enough to guide their side to victory. Dhaka lost two quick wickets in the second and penultimate over but their two overseas batsmen - Dwayne Bravo (six not out) and Ravi Bopara (one not out) ensured the win with four balls in hand. Dhaka's Shakib makes his way to the dressing room after being dismissed by Barisal's Enamul Haque (not pictured). However, this was too little, too late as Barisal suffered their sixth loss DHAKA TRIBUNETaijul was the most successful Barisal bowler with two wickets. Shakib was adjudged player of the match for yet another all-round performance.Courtesy their sixth win in nine matches, high-flying Dhaka Dynamites rose to the top of the points table, alongside Khulna Titans Earlier, Barisal skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first. Barisal crafted a slow start and it was made worse when opener Shahriar Nafees was dismissed for three in only the third over. The other opener, Lankan Dilshan Munaweera (10) also departed cheaply when he was caught short of the crease by Maruf. Barisal were soon dealt another blow in the seventh over when another Lankan Jeevan Mendis (seven) was also run out after a mix up with Mushfiq. Mushfiq, in good form, then anchored the innings, playing a valuable knock of 36 from 30 deliveries. Shakib though picked up the important wicket of compatriot Mushfiq in the 14th over. Mushfiq was a bit unlucky as the ball hit his back leg before rolling onto the stumps. Rumman Raees (25 not out) then struck some lusty blows, helping Barisal to 132/6 from their stipulated 20 overs. Abu Jayed bowled brilliantly for Dhaka, conceding just 12 runs from his quota of four overs besides bagging Shahriar's scalp. Courtesy their sixth win, Dhaka rose to the top of the points table, alongside Khulna Titans. Barisal, in contrast, tasted their sixth loss in nine matches and now face an uphill task to make it into the playoffs.BRIEF SCOREDhaka Dynamites 135/6 in 19.2 overs (Nasir 34, Sangakkara 32, Taijul 2/19) beat Barisal Bulls 132/6 (Mushfiq 36, Raees 25*, Nadif 21) by four wicketsWHAT THEY SAIDDhaka Dynamites captain Shakib al HasanIt is a good win for us. But we don’t want to relax yet. We have three more matches in our hand. Hopefully we will play good cricket in those matches. To keep up the momentum is very hard in a tournament like this. We will try to carry the momentum forward. Every bowler is doing good at the moment. Abu Jayed bowled brilliantly. We are definitely missing [Mohammad] Shahid. He is an important bowler for us. Hopefully he will recover from his injury before the New Zealand series. At the moment, our main target is the top two. We can achieve it if we can win two out of our remaining three matches.Barisal Bulls batsman Dawid MalanAfter a good start in the tournament, we lost the momentum. We just won three matches out of nine. Obviously, things are not going our way in the middle. But we still have the chance to qualify (for the playoffs). We have three games in our hand. We have to win all three. The next game is a final for us. We know two (wins) out of three will not be good enough for us. So we will now go for a win (in) every match. We have to improve our play as a team. We will try to improve from the next match.
