Walton Central Zone and BCB South Zone reached the final of the Bangladesh Cricket League as their match ended in a draw Wednesday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
With the result, South have amassed 12 points and Central 11 to leapfrog BCB North Zone, who beat Islami Bank East Zone in three days in their third round match to end with 10 points.
The final between the two sides with a combined five BCL titles will commence Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
At ZACS, the high-scoring first innings of both the sides ensured the fate of the match and South got the moral victory before the final by getting a 13-run first innings lead by as they finished on 494.
Zakir Hasan became the third centurion in the South innings and the wicketkeeper-batter’s 122-run knock was instrumental behind them taking the lead after Amit Hasan and Towhid Hridoy had scored their tons on the third day.
On the final day, resuming on 381/5 South faced all sorts of problems as Farhad Reza got out without adding any more runs to his overnight score of 12 before Ziaur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed soon followed him with four and one respectively to leave their side on 390/8.
But Zakir, who resumed on 36, continued his lone battle of taking the lead.
He got a good partner in Rishad Hossain, who scored 21, to add 52 runs and stitched together another 52 with No 11 Sumon Khan (eight).
Eventually Zakir, who made 109 runs off 185 balls with nine fours and two sixes, was bowled by Mohammad Mithun as the last batsman.
Central batted 36 overs to put 99/4 on the board before both the captains agreed to call it a day.
