A decade after its theatrical release, Redoan Rony’s Ice Cream, which marked the film debuts of Sariful Razz, Nazifa Tushi and Kumar Uday, is set to arrive on streaming platform Chorki at midnight on October 20.

Written and directed by Rony, the film was released in cinemas on April 29, 2016, and marked an important milestone in the careers of its three debutant actors.

Looking back on her first film, Tushi recalled entering the industry with little knowledge of filmmaking but a strong desire to act.

“I stepped into cinema without knowing or understanding how vast a canvas it was. I knew nothing about the industry. All I knew was that I wanted to act,” she said.

Tushi said the film stood out to her at a time when relatively few alternative films were being made outside the Film Development Corporation (FDC).

“I felt ‘Ice Cream’ was a good film and Redoan Rony was a good director. I was young, and that was enough for me to think I could do it,” she said.

The experience, she added, taught her much about filmmaking and the industry. Reflecting on the passage of time, she said it was surprising to realise that a decade had passed since she made her debut.

For Razz, the film remains a defining chapter in his professional journey. He said the actor he was a decade ago differs from the person he has become, but Ice Cream helped lay the foundation for his career.

“The rehearsals, the nervousness behind the camera, Redoan Rony bhai’s guidance and the moments on set are still vivid,” he said.

Razz added that the film’s arrival on Chorki would give audiences an opportunity to revisit his early days as an actor and see the enthusiasm with which he first stepped in front of the camera.

“It feels truly surreal,” he said.

At the time of the film’s theatrical release, Razz had also spoken emotionally about the struggles that led him to his first film, expressing gratitude to Rony for the opportunity.

Explaining the film’s title, Rony, who wrote its story, screenplay and dialogue, previously compared a relationship to ice cream, saying it needed to be maintained at a particular temperature.

The film’s soundtrack features vocals by Arnob, Armeen Musa, Sharmin Sultana Sumi and Minar Rahman.

The cast also includes ATM Shamsuzzaman, Diti, Omar Sani, Sayem Sadat and Nadia Khanam.

With its arrival on Chorki, Ice Cream offers viewers a chance to revisit a film that marked the beginning of three acting careers and remains a significant milestone in the journeys of its lead performers.
