The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will screen 6 Bangladeshi films free of charge during its 3-day “Cholochhitro Utshob: Ekal Shekal” (Film Festival: Then and Now) from August 9 to 11 at the National Art Gallery Auditorium in Dhaka.
Organized by the BSA’s Theatre and Film Department under the slogan “Cinema for Everyone, Art and Culture for Everyone,” the festival will showcase both contemporary and classic Bangladeshi films.
The festival will open on August 9 at 5pm, followed by screenings of “Roid,” directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, at 6pm and “Jibon Thekey Neya,” directed by Zahir Raihan, at 8pm.
On August 10, “Abar Tora Manush Ho,” directed by Khan Ataur Rahman, will be screened at 5:30pm, followed by “Mastul,” directed by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, at 8pm.
The festival will conclude on August 11 with “Dui Poysar Alta,” directed by Amjad Hossain, at 5:30pm and “The University of Chankharpul,” directed by Akash Haque, at 8pm.
According to the BSA, all screenings are open to the public without tickets.
Ahead of the festival, a seminar titled “Now and Then of Cinema in the Contemporary Context” will be held on August 7 at the academy’s Theatre and Film Department seminar room.
Rezauddin Stalin, director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will chair the seminar. Zahed Ur Rahman, policy and strategy adviser to the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs, will attend as the chief guest.
Aktanin Khayer Tanin will present the keynote paper. Filmmakers Matin Rahman, Shaheen Dill-Riaz, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, and SM Imran Hossain, along with Zahirul Islam Kochi, president of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies, will participate in the discussion.
