Bangladeshi-American DJ and producer Sanjoy is set to perform on one of the world’s biggest entertainment stages after FIFA named him among the artistes for Canada’s opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto.
The ceremony will take place on June 12, ahead of Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
FIFA’s lineup for the Toronto show also includes Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi and Jessie Reyez.
Born in Dhaka and raised in California, Sanjoy has spent more than a decade building a cross-cultural sound blending EDM, South Asian melodies, pop and Bangla influences.
Though still emerging for many Bangladeshi listeners, he has already collaborated with artistes including Sunidhi Chauhan, Guru Randhawa and Sid Sriram.
In recent years, Sanjoy has increasingly turned toward Bangladesh in his music.
His 2024 collaboration “Arale Harale” with Zefar and Muza marked his formal entry into Bangladesh’s music scene, while his performances and folk-inspired experiments reflected a growing desire to merge Bangla musical identity with contemporary global production.
For Sanjoy, the FIFA stage represents more than a career milestone. It is also the culmination of an immigrant journey -- a Dhaka-born child raised abroad, now carrying Bangladeshi-rooted sounds onto a global platform watched by millions.
As football fever grips Bangladesh every World Cup season, Sanjoy’s appearance offers the country a different kind of representation: not on the pitch, but through music under the tournament’s global spotlight.
