Janhvi Kapoor was named Female Actor of the Year at the NDTV Indian of the Year ceremony in New Delhi on Friday.
In her emotional acceptance speech, Janhvi reflected on her career, the impact of her film Homebound, and the responsibility that comes with recognition.
“There are visible milestones like awards, recognition and the incredible journey the film has taken,” she said. “But more importantly, it has helped me understand the kind of person and artist I want to be, and made me more aware of the fractures within our society.”
“Extremely grateful,” says Janhvi.
While she acknowledged the film’s awards and international exposure, she emphasized its deeper influence on her personal and artistic growth. “It has helped me understand the kind of person and artist I want to be, and made me more aware of the fractures within our society,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to director Neeraj Ghaywan for believing in her abilities, noting that the film’s heart lies in empathy and truly seeing people. Speaking about the pressure of the award, Janhvi admitted nervousness never fades but added that success has transformed it into a sense of responsibility.
Janhvi also credited her parents for shaping her values, highlighting respect, trust, personal freedom, and compassion. She shared lighthearted moments about her childhood in a film family, joking about her lack of singing talent and recalling how she organized and performed little shows.
NDTV Indian of the Year awards, launched in 2003, honour individuals representing India’s progress and spirit across 14 categories, including entertainment, business, innovation, sports, and culture.
