‘F1’ crosses the finish line with speed, soul and spectacle

‘F1’ proves why Bangladesh needs IMAX

Update : 10 Jul 2025, 05:00 PM

You know that feeling when a film is released and suddenly regular cinemas feel way too small? “F1” is built for IMAX, and watching it without that is like driving a race car through city traffic. Bangladesh seriously needs to bring IMAX to its theatres, because this kind of high-speed rush deserves a screen that can handle it.

The movie opens with a quick flashback to Sonny Hayes’s crash 30 years ago, then cuts to the present day, where Brad Pitt shows up looking sharp. His humour lands perfectly, especially in scenes with his old friend, played by Javier Bardem. “F1” also drops some life lessons, about teamwork, living in the moment and even smooth flirting skills.

Racing dominates most of the film, and it totally works. The scenes are intense, the camera angles are superb and JB, the rookie, steals some of the spotlight. His transformation adds real heart to the story.

There is not much downtime, but a pre-climax pause gives the audience a breather before the final lap.

The shift from solo ego to full team effort is well-executed. Sonny and JB have strong chemistry, and Pitt delivers – both in the action and emotional moments. The story around the Apex crew feels real and tight.

Hans Zimmer goes all in on the soundtrack, driving the mood in every scene. British racing superstar Lewis Hamilton makes an appearance, and even his smallest glances speak volumes. The supporting cast gets space too, keeping the momentum alive throughout the film.

At 2 hours 35 minutes, it is a long film, and you will feel the laps, but it is still worth the ride. That said, without IMAX, the impact feels a little muted; Bangladesh is missing out on the full-throttle thrills.

The final twist lands perfectly and leaves a lasting impression. Watch it on the biggest screen you can – “F1” deserves it.
