'Film Reform Roadmap 2024' was launched right after the July mass uprising. Their aim is to make sure filmmakers reform and develop the potential film medium in Bangladesh in the light of new times. Two months of research collected by the members of this group resulted in a booklet, which was officially released on October 18 at the Directorate of Films and Publications (DFP). Reading and review of the findings were held simultaneously.
According to a press release from this platform on film affairs, filmmakers of all mediums, producers, cinematographers, sound designers, graphic artists, actors, workers from various sectors of films, members of film organizations and the newly formed advisory committee of the Ministry of Information, grant committee and Several members of the Certification Board and Constitution Reform Committee.
Director General of the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin expressed his opinion by participating in the meeting.
Some of the informed opinions of the group include cancellation of all types of laws against freedom of speech, establishing an autonomous film council, autonomous film commission, certification law reform, film grant reform, expansion of film education, sponsorship in the establishment of a federal union and so on.
According to the platform, the research titled 'Film Reform Roadmap 2024' started in mid-August. From that time the process of creating a 'roadmap' is progressing by gathering the views and demands of all stakeholders in the film industry, online and offline. More than a hundred filmmakers actively participated in giving opinions. About 40 volunteers took the research forward.
Apart from this, the proposed 'Federal Union of Media Professionals' is also working to ensure the rights and safety of film professionals.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided that copies of the published booklet and peer review of 'Film Reform Roadmap 2024' should be delivered to the government policy makers, all film related organizations and stakeholders and it is important to keep the dialogue going.
