Gazi Mazharul Anwar was a revered lyricist, film director and producer. September 4 marks his second death anniversary.
He received the ‘Ekushey Padak’ in 2022, the ‘Shadhinota Puroskar’ in 2021 and six National Film Awards throughout his career.
He had composed over twenty thousand songs. Three of his songs were included in the list of the 20 greatest Bengali songs of all time by BBC Bangla. The songs are 'Joy Bangla Banglar Joy', 'Ektara Tui Desher Kotha' and 'Ekbar Jete Dena Amar Chhotto Shonar Gae'.
He started writing songs in 1964 at the age of 21. Some of his iconic timeless songs also include 'Achhen Amar Moktar', 'Ganeri Khatay Shorolipi Likhe '.’ Akasher hate ache ekras nil’, ‘Shudu Gan Geye Porichoy’, ‘Isharay Shish Diye’, 'Chokkher Nojore Emni Koira’, ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ and many more .
His songs have remained in the hearts of his listeners, his words have touched people’s souls and united them. His legendary work will be remembered forever.
