A Dhaka court on Wednesday framed charges against Faria Mahbub Piasha, model and former TV host, in a case brought by Vatara police under the Narcotics Control Act.
After dismissing the discharge plea submitted by the defendants in the case, Judge Md Morshed Alam of the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Session Court in Dhaka framed the charges.
Following the drafting of the charges, the court set April 17 for the recording of witness depositions in a case submitted to the Gulshan Police Station.
Piasha, who is now out on bail, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to her.
The chargesheet was filed with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) court on September 28, 2021, by investigating officer Inspector Md Abdul Latif of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to the chargesheet, 14 people, including the case's plaintiff, are listed as prosecution witnesses.
Charges have been filed against her after the investigators discovered evidence of her drug possession.
Earlier that day, on August 1, 2021, the Detective Branch (DB) detained Piasha in the Baridhara neighbourhood of the city on suspicion of extorting people using offensive images, and they also took alcohol and 780 yaba tablets from her home.
A second Narcotics Control Act complaint was also brought against Piasha and her partner Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan at the Bhatara police station.
