The Zafars - a Bangladeshi electronic music project by AZM Rafsan and AZ Ishraque - released their song “Obhiman”, as one of the four songs to be released from their debut EP album, titled “Sesh Chithi.”
Each of the four songs from “Sesh Chithi” will feature a different artist, and the first one, “Obhiman,” was sung by new Bangladeshi singer Adeeba Ali Anisha. The melodious song is a perfect blend of electronic synthesiser music and pop melodies, and it even features a guitar solo. It is a perfect example of a new wave electronic song, which is known for their prominent usage of synthesisers and electric guitars.
Regarding the song AZ Ishraque told the Dhaka Tribune Showtime: “This song is a new wave electronic track about a particular relationship between a boy and a girl. ‘Obhiman’ is from the perspective of the girl in the relationship. Another song from our EP will be from the perspective of a boy from the same relationship mentioned in our first song.
“It took us the entirety of three months to produce this song. Usually before working on a song, I do not like to listen to any music for three whole weeks, so that I can come up with something that sounds new to the ears of the listeners,” Ishraque added.
About the genre of the song Ishraque said, “Recently, the 80s’ synth pop sound is becoming quite popular in Bangladesh. There are all these new artists such as Arekta Rock Band, Eida, Dads in the Park, Rasha, and so on, who play different kinds of music that sounds like 80s’ synth pop music. I also love listening to and composing electronic music, and have been working on making my own original electronic tracks for the last three years. I have recently signed with an international music label.”
Ishraque also said that he personally likes to listen to electronic bands such as Deft Punk, The Midnight, and M83, among many others. In other genres, Ishraque listens to Illenium, Kygo, ABBA, Bonnie M, Modern Talking, Bryan Adams, and many others.
“Obhiman” was penned by AZM Rafsan, who is a commercial pilot, but likes to spend all his free time with music. He is described as a guitar enthusiast by Ishraque. The lyrics and tune of the song were also by Rafsan.
On the other hand Ishraque, who himself is a talented guitarist, used to formerly work as an archiver for Radio Shadhin. He used to also play guitar for the band Corridor. Ishraque contributed the electronic music in “Obhiman” and also played guitar in the track.
Both Rafsan and Ishraque are gifted guitarists, but they have recently started dabbling with new wave electronic music, and decided to collaborate together. Since both artists have the name Zafar in their name, they chose that name for their music project. They plan on releasing “Sesh Chithi” by the end of this year.
