Trailer dropped for the latest Ron Howard film “Thirteen Lives,” which revolves around the real-life rescue efforts for 12 boys and their football coach from a flooded cave in Thailand.
The boys and their coach were extracted by elite foreign divers and Thai Navy SEALs in 2018. The final stage of the complex operation, which had gripped Thailand and dominated global headlines, put an end to the 18-day saga that started when the team first entered the cave.
Colin Farrell and Viggo Mortensen have been cast as rescue divers John Volanthen and Richard Stanton, respectively.
The ensemble cast also includes Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman, and Paul Gleeson.
The official summary reads, “Faced with insurmountable odds, a team of the world’s most skilled and experienced divers, uniquely able to navigate the maze of flooded, narrow cave tunnels, join with Thai forces and more than 10,000 volunteers to attempt a harrowing rescue of the twelve boys and their coach. With impossibly high stakes and the entire world watching, the group embarks on their most challenging dive yet, showcasing the limitlessness of the human spirit in the process.”
“This was another one of those kinds of physical filmmaking challenges,” director Howard told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was definitely a feat.”
The film will debut in theatres on July 29, 2022.
