At the concert, Bangladesh and the UNDP will jointly announce the ‘Bangabandhu-UNDP Global Cyber Security Award’

World-famous rock band Scorpions and Bangladesh’s global band Chirkutt are set to perform a concert organized to celebrate Bangladesh’s 50 years of independence at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday.

The ICT Division has arranged the concert to convey the potential and national image of “Digital Bangladesh” to the world and as a tribute to the George Harrison-led Concert for Bangladesh at the same place in 1971.

At the concert, Bangladesh and the UNDP will jointly announce the “Bangabandhu-UNDP Global Cyber Security Award”, reports UNB.

Proceeds from the Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert will be spent on cyber security in relatively weak countries through the UN body.

George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh in 1971 COLLECTED

On August 1, 1971, the whole world learned the name of Bangladesh and the then yet unborn nation's bloody fight for freedom through a pop concert organized by George Harrison and sitar maestro Ravi Shankar at Madison Square Garden.

Former Beatles lead guitarist Harrison responded to his friend Ravi Shankar's call and came out of his “semi-retirement”. He also roped in a few of his famous friends like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.
