Netflix supernatural drama "Stranger Things," is finally returning with its fourth season.
It will be divided in two volumes. The first volume will debut on May 27 and the second volume will debut on July 1.
The team behind the hit show is hinting at a darker and more dramatic tone for the new season with greater horror elements.
"They’re not kids anymore — they really are full-blown teenagers,” co-creator Matt Duffer told Netflix’s Queue magazine. “That’s why this season we leaned more into horror. We figured they should be in their own [version] of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ basically.”
“If we look back at our favorite movie sequels — whether it’s ‘Aliens’ or ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day,’ or ‘The Godfather: Part II,’ or ‘The Empire Strikes Back’— the greatest movie sequels always do change it up. The tone feels different,” Ross Duffer told Queue. “So that’s what we’ve been trying to do each season to challenge ourselves and give everyone something new to try.”
The show-runners, Matt and Ross Duffer, have already confirmed another season to be in the pipeline, which will bring the show to an end. The brothers have quite a few interesting ideas to work with that they have hit upon during the pandemic.
“I mean, it’s bigger, that’s the first thing,” David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, said of “Stranger Things 4” to Collider. “In scope, in scale, even in the idea that we’re not in Hawkins anymore. We, locale-wise, we’re bigger. We’re introducing new stuff, but we’re also tightening and wrapping up in a certain direction to make it have a clear, clean specific, and definite ending at some point."
