Maria Mumu, the founder and president of Moshal Mental Health, has bagged the highest accolade for social action or humanitarian efforts – The Diana Award, at the age of 20.
The prestigious award is given in memory of Diana, the princess of Wales, to young people with a vision to change the world for the better.
Mumu, who became a familiar name after earning the 4th place in the 2019 Miss Universe Bangladesh, is the first mental health advocate from Bangladesh to achieve the accolade. Her organization Moshal started its journey only a year ago, making it the country's youngest organization to receive the Diana Award.
Established in 1999, the award is the highest accolade conferred upon a young person aged 9-25 for their social action or humanitarian work.
Mumu started working at the age of 12. After the tragic death of her best friend, she was diagnosed with clinical depression. Her own struggles with mental health later inspired her to strive to destigmitize mental illness.
Today, Moshal provides indispensable mental health service through its expert panel, first-aid hotline and one-of-a-kind Client Relations Team.
The organization has sparked a nation-wide conversation on mental health. Maria Mumu wishes to provide free medical service one day to everyone struggling with mental health.
