On June 3 at 11am, Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux presented the Official Selection of the 74th Festival de Cannes at the UGC Normandie in Paris.
In the selection list shone bright one Bangladeshi film. Director Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s second feature “Rehana Maryam Noor” made it to the prestigious and competitive “Un Certain Regard” section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
Penned and edited by Saad, this is the first Bangladeshi film to have been officially selected at the festival. Previously, the late director Tareque Masud’s “Matir Moyna” was screened at the Director's Fortnight segment of the 55th Cannes.

For the first time in history, an eight-member Bangladeshi film crew will grace the red carpet at Cannes.
Sound engineer Sayba, colorist Chinmoy, production designer Uzzal, cinematographer Tuhin, executive producer Babu, co-producer Mohajon, actor Azmeri Haque Badhon and director Abdullah Mohammad Saad have all reached Paris on June 25 and are eagerly waiting for the curtain to lift on the Cannes festival.
On July 6, the eight members will land on Nice, from where Cannes is only 26 km away.
Lead actor Badhon has been posting updates on her social media handles, including pictures of the crew, her occasional outings and memorable stories from the set.
“Rehana Maryam Noor” is set to premiere at Cannes, on July 7 and 8.
The film’s premise revolves around a private medical college teacher, Rehana, who singe-handedly wages a fight for justice on behalf of her 6-year-old daughter and one of her college students.

Rajib Mohajan, Sydul Haque Khandaker, Adnan Habib co-produced the film. Cinematographer Tuhin Tamijul shot the film. Ali Afjal Uzzal and Sayba Talukder completed the production design and the sound design, respectively.
“Rehana Maryam Noor” boasts an ensemble cast of Azmeri Haque Badhon, Afia Hahin Jaima, Afia tabassum Borno, Kazi Sami Hossain, Yasir Al Haq, Saberi Alam, Abrodit Chowhdury and others.
Khelna Chobi’s internationally acclaimed film “Live from Dhaka,” was director Saad’s 2016 directorial debut, which won the Best Actor and Best Director awards at the Singapore International Film Festival and has been screened at various international film festivals of the world.
