Saif Ali Khan to headline Netflix’s first Indian series

Update : 14 Jul 2017, 10:37 PM
Netflix is all set to produce its first Indian original series Sacred Games, a Hindi and English language crime drama for the streaming video giant worldwide, and has banked Bollywood star, Saif Ali Khan to play the lead role, Netflix confirmed via Twitter post. Based on the best-selling novel by Vikram Chandra, the Mumbai-set drama “delves into the city’s intricate web of organised crime, corruption, politics and espionage that lie beneath India’s economic renaissance,” Netflix stated in an announcement earlier. Netflix is now reportedly banking on some Bollywood star power for its first Indian original series, which will be co-produced by Phantom Films, whose founders include acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane, and producer Madhu Mantena. All thanks to Netflix’s relationship with Kashyap, whose 2012 two-part epic Gangs of Wasseypur was streamed as an eight-part series on the video giant’s US service, in 2015. In a career, spanning over two decades, Saif Ali khan has delivered a number of successful films, including Dil Chahta Hai and Race, the action franchise. Under his banner Illimunati, the 46 year old actor also produced a number of films, including Cocktail, in which he also starred along with Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. However, Khan’s upcoming projects include the Bollywood remake of Jon Favreau’s Chef, which is slated for release later this year.
