Amitabh Reza's 'Rickshaw Girl' in Oscar-qualifying film festival

The film tells the story of a brave Bangladeshi girl who disguises herself as a boy and starts driving rickshaw to help her struggling family

Director Amitabh Reza's 'Rickshaw Girl,' based on Mitali Perkins’ book of the same name, has been selected for Oscar qualifying festival, Durban Int'l Film Festival.

Producer Eric J Adams revealed the news. "Thrilled to announce our film "Rickshaw Girl" has been invited to compete and screen at the Durban Int'l Film Festival, South Africa's oldest film festival. This acceptance qualifies us to submit to the Academy Awards next year.”

Starring Novera Ahmed in the lead role, the film tells the story of a brave Bangladeshi girl who disguises herself as a boy and starts driving a rickshaw to help her struggling family.

Previously, "Transit" by Ariq Anam Khan and "Life in Other Words" by Abrar Athar were also screened at Oscar qualifying festivals.
