HBO ordered the remake of the Swedish TV series Scenes from a Marriage, directed by master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, earlier this summer. Michelle Williams and Oscar Isaac were set to reprise the roles of Erland Josephson and Liv Ullmann.
Due to scheduling issues, Williams has dropped out the project and Jessica Chastain has joined the cast. She previously worked with Isaac in JC Chandor’s A Most Violent Year.

The original series was inspired by Bergman’s numerous difficulties with relationships. The director was married five times. Liv Ullmann, who starred in the original series, had a five-year affair with the director as well.
