Bollywood veteran and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan is receiving abuse and threats on social media after she condemned the 'vilification of Bollywood' by a few artists from the entertainment industry.
Her comments were directed against BJP MP from Gorakhpur Ravi Kishan and actor Kangana Ranaut for ‘biting the hand that feeds.’
She took a stand in the parliament against people who are allegedly ‘tarnishing’ the image of the film industry. “People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language.”
Her comments polarized Bollywood with Ranaut and Ranvir Shorey calling Jaya out on her bias. The Queen star tweeted, “What is Jaya referring to? All we were offered was a two-minute role, a romantic scene, item numbers and the obligation to sleep with the hero. I taught the industry feminism, made one patriotic film after another, no one is feeding me.”
